Are all practitioners qualified?

We employ staff who are trained to level 3 or are working towards this and have experience with children. We have a qualified teacher who manages the nursery and a graduate practitioner.  All staff have food Hygiene level 2, Paediatric first aid and Safeguarding children level 2 training as extra and renew these every three years.
We do have students who undertake their training at the nursery as we all have to train somewhere and any students are over and above the ratio of staff to children so that they can take the opportunity to shadow experienced practitioners and pick up good practice for when they have qualified.

Are staff CRB checked?

All of our staff have a CRB check carried out before they are left alone with the children. Many nursery nurses come from other nurseries and have a CRB check which is less than 3 years old but we always request that they have one which we have sent off and verify this for ourselves. Every year all staff update their personal file and a disclaimer is signed to say that they have not had any changes to their criminal record and are required by contract to inform us of any situations which may arise in our employment.  Any volunteers and family members who come to the nursery also have had CRB checks carried out and this includes Santa who comes to visit the children at Christmas to deliver the nursery presents!

How can I pay my Nursery fees?

You can pay by Cash, cheque or direct debit. All payments must be made in advance either at the beginning of the week or the beginning of each month. Please speak to Sue for more information or to discuss this further and for bank details for direct debit payments.

My baby is not born yet is it too early to apply for a place?

No, this is probably the best time to guarantee a place as we only have 29 places per day. We tend to book up a year in advance and have many babies on file who are not currently in the world.

Do you prepare and cook your own food?

Yes, all of the food is cooked fresh on a daily basis and we have recently been awarded a healthy eating award from Stoke On Trent PCT.

What is the staff to child ratio?

Our staff ratios (adult:child)
1:3 Baby rooms (0-2 year olds). 1:4 Toddler room (2-3 year olds). 1:8 Pre-school (3-5 year olds)

What clothing does my child need?

Please send your child in “Play Clothes.” In this way children can concentrate on having fun and not worry about staying clean. Remember, paint, glue, sand, mud, grass and rain are a part of each of our days in one way or another. Children should be dressed for the weather as they usually go outside for a portion of every day. We suggest that clothing be comfy and easily handled by little fingers. We ask that you provide two changes of clothes. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled. Children and staff generally wear slippers indoors for comfort and hygiene purposes. Wellies are also appreciated in the winter as we do go and explore the puddles!

Do the children go outside?

Fresh air and outside play is an essential part of any child’s day. We have a large, secure and well equipped garden with the added bonus of the park on our doorstep. There are areas to challenge children’s motor skills such as balancing, jumping skipping and running.
